An important gift from the Feld Family Foundation will create a new professorship in the College of Arts & Sciences. Members of the Feld family pledged $10 million to the University to enhance faculty development, and $2.5 million has been designated for CAS to endow the Feld Family Professorship of Teaching Excellence. The gift also will endow professorships in the School of Management and the College of Communication.

The Feld Family Foundation is a private philanthropic organization administered by Bonnie Feld (CAS’73), a member of the CAS Leadership Advisory Board; Kenneth Feld (SMG’70), chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment, a BU trustee, and chair of the Trustees’ Development & Alumni Committee; and daughters Nicole, Alana (COM’02), and Juliette. The foundation is dedicated to supporting higher education, the performing arts, and conservation of the endangered Asian elephant.

“I am delighted that the foundation has chosen to endow this important professorship, which allows us to underscore our commitment to excellence in research and teaching,” said Dean Sapiro. “The Feld Family Professorship of Teaching Excellence will be awarded to a distinguished senior member of the CAS faculty in any field who has achieved the highest level of accomplishment in teaching and mentoring, as well as in scholarship. We will seek to appoint the first Feld Family Professor in time for the 2010–11 academic year.”
