This week, the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences mourns the loss of three Boston University undergraduates in a tragic accident in New Zealand. As this academic year comes to a close, our thoughts and compassion are with Austin Brashears (ENG’13), Daniela Lekhno (SMG’13), and Roch Jauberty (CAS’14), their classmates injured in the accident, and their families, classmates, and friends. Commencement Is Almost Here
Commencement Weekend is just around the corner, and it’s time to honor graduating undergraduate and graduate students for the fine work they have done at CAS. CAS Class Day, where we recognize and honor our undergraduates who have earned special honors and distinctions, will take place on Saturday, May 19, at 3 p.m. in the George Sherman Union’s Metcalf Hall. Click here for more information. The GRS Doctoral Hooding Ceremony is Friday, May 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the GSU Metcalf Hall. For a full list of departmental convocations, click here. New Program Engages High School Students in Science Research
The Center for Polymer Studies received a major three-year grant to provide opportunities for disadvantaged high school students to engage in year-round cutting-edge science research and industry internships. Read more
Dean Sapiro Announces Outstanding Teaching Fellows
Dean Sapiro recently announced the 25 Outstanding Teaching Fellows for the 2011/12 academic year. These graduate student/teachers have contributed to the high quality of a BU education while also developing their skills as teachers and mentors. Read more
Advising Award Winners Announced, and Faculty Service Recognized
Dean Sapiro recently announced the three winners of the 2012 Templeton Award for Excellence in Student Advising. Congratulations to Jeremy DeSilva, James Traniello, and Dorothy Kelly. Read more. Allison Gill
Allison, a graduate student working with Adrien Finzi in Biology, has been awarded a three-year Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Fellowship. There were just 50 of these fellowships awarded nationally this year.
