BU Joins Association of American Universities
Boston University has joined the Association of American Universities (AAU), an elite organization of 61 leading research universities in the United States and Canada. BU, one of only four universities invited to join the group since 2000, becomes the 62nd member. In the Boston area, only Harvard, MIT, and Brandeis are also members. Read more
Three CAS Faculty Members Named Hariri Institute Junior Fellows

Generous Gift Establishes Fellowship Fund in Judaic Studies
Ida Fasel was a poet, scholar, and centenarian before she passed away on January 13, 2012, at the age of 102. Her spirit of generosity endures. Boston University recently announced the establishment of the Drapkin-Fasel Graduate Fellowship Fund in Judaic Studies, made possible by a gift of $1.1 million from the late Dr. Fasel. Read more
CAS Scientists Named to Landsat Satellite Team
At 40 years old, the Landsat program is the longest-running satellite imaging program on (or above) Earth. The new Landsat Science Team includes two CAS scientists: Assistant Professor of Earth & Environment Robert Kennedy and Chair of Earth & Environment Curtis Woodcock. Read more
BU to Launch the East Coast’s Largest Academic GPU Computer Cluster
Boston University researchers this month will fire up the largest academic GPU (graphics processing unit) computer cluster on the East Coast, thanks to a gift of 160 GPUs from the Hewlett-Packard Company. Read more

The American Mathematical Society has named seven faculty members in the CAS Department of Mathematics & Statistics to its inaugural class of fellows. Read more
Center for the Study of Europe to Launch European Lecture Series
The Center for the Study of Europe has been awarded a grant from the European Union Commission for a public lecture series by European artists, writers, public intellectuals, and ambassadors titled “Getting to Know Europe: The EU Inside Out.” Read more
BU Archaeologists Partner with Iraqi University in Unique Education/Archaeology Program
A team of archaeologists under the direction of BU Assistant Professor of Archaeology Michael Danti will partner with educators at Mosul University on an innovative program to revive higher education and cultural heritage management in Iraq. Read more
BU Grads Rated Among World’s Most Employable
The power of a BU diploma was recognized last month when the employability of graduates of the University was ranked 17 in the world and 7 among U.S. schools in a survey published in the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune. Read more
