CAS Alumni Honored at Alumni Weekend

Arts & Sciences honored four of its graduates at a Distinguished Alumni Awards Reception on October 23, part of Boston University’s Alumni Weekend. The award winners were: Captain Shoshana S. Chatfield (CAS’88), Colonel Christopher C. Henes (DGE’70, CAS’73), Larry Nichter (CGS’71, CAS’73, MED’78), and Wayne J. Positan (CAS’70). The awards recognize the many ways in which Arts & Sciences alumni are contributing to their alma mater, professions, and community.

Dean Sapiro joined other Arts & Sciences alumni in conferring the awards. Presenters included Han Han (CAS’96), former president of the CAS/GRS Alumni Association, and three former award winners—Olive Lesueur (CAS’66, MET’85), Margarita Muñiz (CAS’72), and Ajmal Qureshi (GRS’78). John Connery (CAS’69), also a former award recipient, was the emcee for the ceremony.

In addition to the Distinguished Alumni Awards given by Arts & Sciences, University-wide Alumni Awards and Young Alumni Awards were bestowed during Alumni Weekend. Three of this year’s recipients were CAS alums. Thomas Insel (CAS’72, MED’74) and Karen Mavrides (CAS’68) won Alumni Awards, and Alexi Giannoulias (CAS’98) won a Young Alumni Award. Giannoulias is currently the treasurer of the State of Illinois and is a candidate for the Senate seat formerly held by Barack Obama.
