"Germany and Israel - 50 Years after the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations," BUJS Forum with German Consul General Rolf Schuette
- Starts: 12:30 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2014
- Ends: 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Many Israelis consider Germany to be their country’s second-most important partner internationally today. This sounds like a miracle against the background of the Holocaust and the fact that only 50 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Consul General Schuette will shed some light on the question how this very special relationship has evolved and changed over the years.
One of Mr. Schuette’s foreign assignments was at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv. He also held the position of Deputy Director for Middle East Affairs in the Foreign Office and, during a sabbatical, spent a few months as a visiting scholar at the American Jewish Committee headquarters in New York working on a publication about German-Jewish relations today, a subject which is very dear to him personally and on which he has given many talks. Mr Schuette was invited by the Holocaust survivors’ organization to speak at the 2012 Yom Ha’Shoah observance at Faneuil Hall in Boston.
