The Boston University African American Studies program invites you to join us for our Fall 2013 lecture series. Dr. Kevin Quashie will lecture on the topic "Breath, Violence, Quiet." Dr. Quashie raises the question: "Two men with fists raised. A young woman who cherishes dandelions; another, older, stands with turned back and arms outstretched. A young man’s body dancing, trembling down the night street. The scent and color of magnolia: what here is breath and which violence? What, in this chorus, is quiet?" Dr. Quashie teaches cultural studies and theory in the department of Afro-American Studies at Smith College. He is the author or editor of three books, most recently The Sovereignty of Quiet: Beyond Resistance in Black Culture. This lecture is free and open to the public.
