How can we work together to promote better cultural understanding worldwide?

Qais Akbar Omar (GRS’16), a graduate student in the Creative Writing Program, has published a much-praised memoir, A Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story. He recalls how the violence and tumult of civil war jolted his family, who, despite losing relatives, their home, and possessions, continued to nurture his wish to attend a university.

Myriam Bienenstock, Professor of German Philosophy at Université François-Rabelais in Tours, France and BU Center for the Humanities Visiting Scholar in Judaic Studies and Philosophy of Religion presents three lectures on "Emmanuel Levinas in Context." Wednesday, April 10: "The French Connection" | Respondent: Prof. Jeffrey Mehlman, Department of Romance Studies; Wednesday, April 17: "The German Connection" | Respondent: Prof. Daniel Dahlstrom, Department of Philosophy; Wednesday, April 24: "The Jewish Connection" | Respondent: Prof. Eugene Sheppard, Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis.
