2012-2013 Lecture Series, “Beyond Aesthetics: Philosophical and Theological Construals of Art."
Nicholas Wolterstorff is Noah Porter Professor Emeritus of Philosophical Theology, Yale University and is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture, at the University of Virginia. He has received many fellowships, including ones from the NEH and the Danforth Endowment, and is past President of the American Philosophical Association (Central Division) and of the Society of Christian Philosophers; he is also a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Wolterstorff is on the editorial boards of Faith and Philosophy and Topics in Philosophy, and is a member of the evaluation panels for the NEH. Among the lectures he has given are the Wilde Lectures at Oxford University, the Gifford Lectures at St Andrews University, and the Stone Lectures at Princeton Seminary. In ad¬dition to numerous articles, he has written the following books: Reason within the Bounds of Religion; Art in Action; Works and Worlds of Art; Education for Responsible Act! ion; Until Justice and Peace Embrace; and Keeping Faith: Talks for New Faculty. A collection of his essays, including nine new ones, will be published this November: Understanding Liberal Democracy: Essays in Political Philosophy (ed. Terence Cuneo, in press).
