General Guidelines

First-semester freshmen should not take more than one College Honors course.

Students in the class of 2011 have the first six semesters from the point of matriculation to complete all Program requirements. Students in subsequent classes will have the first four semesters from the point of matriculation in which to complete Program requirements.

College Honors courses count toward CAS divisional studies requirements even if those courses do not appear on other lists within CAS of specifically prescribed divisional studies courses.

Students can be in the College Honors Program and in the Core Curriculum program, and may, but need not, use the College Honors sections of Core courses to satisfy Program requirements.

All College Honors courses must be taken in CAS. Advanced Placement, transfer courses, and other forms of advanced credit will not satisfy the requirements of the Program.

The Program does not offer summer courses, and courses taken while studying abroad will not fulfill Honors Program requirements.

Students must obtain permission from the Associate Director in order to take more than one Honors Program course per semester.

Successful completion of the Program will result in the notation 'Awarded College Honors' on the student's transcript; this notation does not appear on the Boston University diploma.

Students who withdraw from, or otherwise fail to satisfy the requirements of the Program, will receive full credit for those College Honors courses that they have completed.

Course adjustments in the College Honors Program must be made by the Program Directors.

Students cannot receive Honors Program course credit for directed studies or other independent studies/ research outside of the Honors Program curriculum even if approved by individual faculty members.

Students who have completed the CAS Honors Program may take additional courses in the curriculum; interested students should contact the Associate Director about this option.
