Gitner, Neu & Wisneski Awards

Nominations

A Gitner Award, Neu Award, and Wisneski Award, of $1,000 each, will be given each year. They are presented initially at the April CAS faculty meeting, and then given formally at the CAS Class Day ceremony during Commencement weekend.

The basis of the awards is excellent and distinguished teaching in the broadest sense, including classroom performance, course and curriculum development, advising, and enhancement of the scholarship of teaching and learning. While the emphasis is on undergraduate instruction, evidence of excellence in graduate-level teaching strengthens the nomination.

Each department may nominate one person. The nomination may come from the department chairmen, a departmental committee, or an individual in the department. The nomination cover letter should describe those aspects of the nominee’s teaching that warrant consideration for an award. The letter should be accompanied by supporting documents that should include course syllabi, student evaluations, and any other materials that would aid in the recognition of superior teaching. Supporting letters from students and other faculty members may be included, but are not required. CVs are not useful unless they contain substantial information about educational accomplishments.

Nominations will be assessed by an advisory committee made up of Associate Dean for Faculty Peter B. Doeringer, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs Wayne Snyder, Associate Dean of the Graduate School Scott Whitaker, past award winners, and involved students. The nominating packet plus cover letter should be sent to Dean Doeringer in CAS 109, 725 Commonwealth Avenue.
