Non-tenure-track Faculty & Research Staff Reappointments

Non-tenure-track faculty and PhD-level research staff are appointed to their positions with limited terms, usually of duration one, two, or three years. If you wish to continue their appointment, you must submit the paperwork to do so during the year preceding the expiration of their current appointment. You (or the person to whom you delegate the responsibility of keeping track) should therefore be aware of the timetable for submission of reappointment papers for all of your untenured faculty and research staff. If you are uncertain, contact the Office of Faculty Actions (3-2405) for the timetable for individual personnel in these categories.

The reappointment forms include space for an assessment by the department chair of the value of the individual to the department’s teaching and/or research program, as well as justification for continuing the appointment. Be sure to give a serious evaluation, since weak justifications run the risk of the reappointment being turned down.
