How can we work together to promote better cultural understanding worldwide?

Qais Akbar Omar (GRS’16), a graduate student in the Creative Writing Program, has published a much-praised memoir, A Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story. He recalls how the violence and tumult of civil war jolted his family, who, despite losing relatives, their home, and possessions, continued to nurture his wish to attend a university.

Dean of Arts & Sciences

The Dean is the chief academic, administrative, and financial officer of the College and Graduate School. The main responsibilities of the Dean are to lead the College by setting priorities, directing academic planning, and working with departments to help them fulfill their academic missions. The Dean is also the chief advocate for the College in its relationships with the central administration and in representing the College to external constituencies.

About Dean Cudd

Ann E. Cudd became Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on August 1, 2015. She is also appointed as Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Boston University. Prior to coming to BU, she was Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies and University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kansas. Read more
