How can we work together to promote better cultural understanding worldwide?

Qais Akbar Omar (GRS’16), a graduate student in the Creative Writing Program, has published a much-praised memoir, A Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story. He recalls how the violence and tumult of civil war jolted his family, who, despite losing relatives, their home, and possessions, continued to nurture his wish to attend a university.

Commencement 2015

Commencement Weekend is fast approaching, and it’s time to honor our graduating students for their hard work and perseverance in pursuit of their degrees. Below is a complete schedule of CAS Commencement events.

CAS Class Day, where we recognize and honor our undergraduates who have earned special honors and distinctions, will take place on Friday, May 15, at 2:00 PM in the George Sherman Union’s Metcalf Hall. The GRS Doctoral Hooding Ceremony is Friday, May 15, at 5:30 PM in the GSU Metcalf Hall. The All-University Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 17, at 1:00 PM at Nickerson Field.
