Academic Advising

Dean Ralph W. Taylor Academic Advising Center (“CAS 105”)

The coordination of academic advising for undeclared concentrators and the interpretation and implementation of academic regulations and policies of the College are carried out in the Dean Ralph W. Taylor Academic Advising Center, located in CAS Room 105.

All College of Arts and Sciences students are encouraged to consult the professional staff in CAS 105 for help with any academic problem or concern. Academic counselors are available to meet with students about general college requirements, intra-university transfers, Boston University's Collaborative Degree Program (BUCOP), leave of absence/withdrawal, academic difficulty, and academic standards. Students on academic warning or probation are required to meet with an academic counselor on a regular basis.

In planning an academic program, students may encounter complex problems that even the most careful reading of the Undergraduate Bulletin will not resolve. The Taylor Academic Advising Center is staffed by faculty advisors and academic counselors who can assist in the resolution of such issues.

Every full-time student in the College chooses an academic advisor. The success of the advising system depends on the student as well as the advisor. Although students must confer with their advisors before registration each term, they are encouraged to meet with them periodically during each semester.

Freshman and sophomore students who have not chosen a concentration will be provided special assistance in registering, selecting a concentration, and developing a comprehensive program for their studies by their faculty advisors in CAS 105. All undeclared students are expected to meet with a faculty advisor at least once in addition to pre-registration advising. Students with a declared concentration should consult the department of their concentration for academic advising.

Please visit CAS 105 or call 617-353-2400 to schedule an appointment with a faculty advisor or an academic counselor.
