Intra-University Transfer

Transferring from another BU School or College to the College of Arts & Sciences

The College of Arts & Sciences welcomes students from other BU schools and colleges. Intra-University transfer (“IUT”) from any of BU’s four-year schools into CAS requires the following:

  • A minimum 2.30 cumulative grade point average
  • Good academic standing in your current school
  • At least one full-time semester with 12 or more credits in a degree program at your current school

Students are not allowed to transfer into CAS in their senior year.

For Students in All Other Boston University Schools and Colleges

During the course of your studies, you may decide that CAS is a more appropriate home for your college education. If this is the case, we encourage you to consult with an undergraduate advisor in the CAS Advising Center or an advisor associated with the major you wish to undertake. Click here for procedures for transferring into CAS from another BU school or college.

*Students entering as juniors must declare a major. Freshmen and sophomores can postpone this decision until pre-registration prior to their junior year.
*Liberal arts courses generally will transfer to CAS. Courses outside of the liberal arts (e.g., professional courses in engineering, business, or education) normally transfer as elective credit only. No transfer credit will be granted for Physical Education (PDP) or Military Science (ROTC) courses.
