Reconsideration
The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences does not defer admission. However, if once offered admission you wish to start at a later date, you may ask to be reconsidered for a future semester that is up to one year beyond your initial semester of admission. Your original application will be reviewed at that time, taking account of competition from other applicants and relevant work you have conducted in the interim. Keep in mind that the department is not obligated to re-offer you admission.
The Admissions Committee will reach a decision as if it were the first time you were applying. Your original application credentials are kept on file for one year so you need not re-submit them, unless you wish to provide updates. You will not need to pay another application fee. International applicants must submit, by the application deadline, an updated International Student Data Form, as well as any additional documents (including financial information) as noted on the form.
Requests for reconsideration for admission can be made by submitting the Reconsideration Request Form or in writing to the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Admissions Office at 705 Commonwealth Avenue, Suite 112, Boston, MA 02215 or by e-mail to grs@bu.edu
