The
Liberal Arts at Boston University
A message from Associate
Dean Wayne Snyder
Welcome to the College of
Arts and Sciences, the heart of the undergraduate
experience at Boston University. We are
an academic community of students and faculty
involved in the discovery, evaluation, and
transmission of essential knowledge. Through
studies of the humanities, the natural sciences,
the social sciences, and mathematics and
computer science, our students prepare themselves
to assume productive roles as creative,
engaged, and informed members of our society
and the global community.
The College of Arts and Sciences
is the main academic gathering point on
Boston University’s campus, the place
where all undergraduate students come together,
no matter what major they choose to pursue.
Students at BU's other undergraduate schools
take nearly 40 percent of their classes
here at the College, enriching their professional
studies with the core principles and essential
ideas of the liberal arts. And for the students
who choose to enroll with us, as the vast
majority of BU’s undergraduates do,
a rich and intellectually rewarding experience
awaits.
You can choose from more
than 70 major concentrations, or you can
design your own path. You can study here,
in the world-class academic hub that is
Boston, or around the world, through BU’s
expansive study abroad program. Whatever
decisions you make, you’ll find us
right behind you, supporting you through
an extensive program of academic advising
and mentoring.
This College’s expectations
of you are high, and our standards are equally
high. We expect you to take the driver’s
seat, steering your education in the direction
you want it to take. But we’ll be
here to help you on the road, encouraging
you to reach for goals you may not yet be
able to imagine.
I welcome your interest,
and I invite you to contact us if we can
be of help in guiding you through the wealth
of opportunities you’ll find at BU’s
College of Arts and Sciences.
