On April 30, the Boston University community came together to bolster the future of BU in a way that had never been done before. The first annual Boston University Giving Day 2014 was a huge success–raising over $1.1 million for the University from parents, alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends. It was the single largest 24-hour showing of BU community support, ever. The one-day fundraising drive to support the Campaign for BU was a chance for supporters from all over the world to come together to give back and create a brighter future for the University and its students.
The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (CAS/GRS) led the charge. CAS/GRS raised more dollars–over $300,000–than any other college or unit at BU. This support came from 325 different donors, also the highest total on Giving Day. The School of Law came in second with 243 gifts for $125,000. (Gifts are still being counted, so totals might rise!)
Participation in Giving Day came from a wide spectrum of supporters. Over 500 faculty members donated, as did over 200 students. In all, 3,126 gifts were made, totaling $1,118,770. Thanks to a generous challenge donation from Trustee Steve Karp (CAS’63), the first $1,000 of each gift made on Giving Day was matched—dollar for dollar.* So on Giving Day, alumni and supporters had a chance to make twice the impact.
