These are some questions you may want to ask yourself if you are considering becoming self-employed or an entrepreneur:

Personal questions:

  • What do I want from self-employment?
  • What strengths and skills do I have that will make me successful?
  • How will this impact my personal life?
  • How will this affect me financially?
  • What do I really like to do?
  • What am I really good at doing?
  • How do I stay motivated?
  • What level of risk am I comfortable with?
Financial questions:
  • Can I afford to go into business for myself?
  • Should I start from scratch, buy, or franchise my business?
  • Where will I get my financing from?
Business questions:
  • Do I have a clear idea of the product or service that I will provide?
  • How much do I know about this business?
  • What customers/markets can I pursue?
  • Who is my competition?
Implementation questions:
  • Will I be the sole proprietor/owner or will I have a partner or partners?
  • Will I have employees?
  • What professional help do I need to get started?
  • Will I work out of my home, or lease office space?
  • What actions must I take to get started?
