Individual Appointments

Discuss all things career-related with a member of our Counseling & Programs team.

What To Talk about in an Individual Career Counseling Appointment

During individual career counseling appointments, we can discuss a variety of topics. Our staff members work with you through the process of identifying your skills, interests, values, and personality style and finding your best fit in the world of work.

We can discuss…

  • Making decisions about your major, minor, and career
  • How to find a job or internship
  • Graduate school decisions and the application process
  • Preparing for an interview, including mock interviews
  • How to start if you feel lost or know you should use the career center but are not sure how or why

Counseling Appointments are not for…

  • Resume or cover letter feedback: schedule a review appointment
  • Visa compliance & work authorization (OPT/CPT): contact ISSO
  • Course requirements: contact your academic advisor/counselor
  • Reviewing personal statements for Medical or Law School admission: contact the Pre-Professional Advising Office
  • Editing of personal statements for grammar and writing mechanics : See The COM Writing Center and the Educational Resource Center to explore additional writing resources

Read recent blog posts to learn more about what we do and how to make the most of your appointment.

How To Make an Individual Appointment + Additional Notes

Eligible undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni can schedule appointments in Handshake. (See eligibility information.)

Cancelling or Rescheduling Your Appointment
To cancel, go to the appointments page (via the Career Center drop-down menu), click on the appointment you wish to cancel, the click the red cancel button. To reschedule, cancel your existing appointment and then schedule a new appointment.
