From Rainforests to the Renaissance: An Evening with Global Ecologist and Artist Douglas Zook
Professor Zook (SED and CAS) will give a dynamic multi-media presentation focused on the backbone of sustainability: global ecology. He will share visuals of his leading ecology researchers, students, and science educators to the remote Boston University-affiliated Tiputini Biodiversity Station in the Yasuni region of the northwest Amazon in eastern Ecuador. Dr. Zook has taught sustainability thinking to undergraduates for many years and recently initiated a Global Ecology Education Program focused around a unique Global Ecology core course for seniors and graduate students. Part of this effort includes directing the Nature and Me Ecology program based at the School of Education, which brings children of many cultures from low income, Boston urban neighborhood schools to the Arnold Arboretum for ongoing experiences in nature. He will also share his unique window reflection photography, which emerged from his environmental work in the Renaissance city of Krakow, Poland. This presentation includes a reminder of the outstanding achievements in sustainability practice right around us on campus.
This event is brought to you by the School of Education (Science Education) and sustainability@BU as part of International Education Week, a university-wide celebration of BU's global engagement.
