Beethoven Center Lecture

For our upcoming fall event, Prof. Federica Rovelli of the University of Pavia, a noted authority on Beethoven's creative process, author of many articles on Beethoven, former research scholar at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, and editor of the upcoming new edition of the "Scheide" Sketchbook of 1815, will present a lecture about the work of Beethoven's Werkstatt ("Beethoven's Workshop"), a massive fifteen-year project undertaken to investigate the entire textual and musical history of Beethoven's compositional process, analyzing through complex computer analysis the physical writing of his autograph manuscripts and following the sequence of composition and revision from sketches, manuscripts, and corrections through to the "finished" work. Professor Rovelli will also briefly discuss research opportunities for graduate students at the University of Pavia, which is located in Cremona, in northern Italy, whose rich musical heritage includes the names of some of the most famous stringed-instrument makers in the world, including Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri, and several members of the Amati family. This event is free and open to the public.
