SAIL Speaker Series: Erica Walker
The Community Noise Lab (Unite. Evaluate. Take Actions) Erica Walker is an environmental epidemiologist and exposure scientist interested in understanding how sound and noise impact community health and well-being. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher and founder of Community Noise Lab at the Boston University School of Public Health. Community Noise Lab’s primary aim is to explore the relationships between noise and health by working directly with communities to address their specific noise issues, employing a mix of real-time sound monitoring, smartphone technology, laboratory based experiments, and community engagement activities. She is excited to be working with the Software & Application Innovation Lab (SAIL) on the redevelopment of NoiseScore, a smartphone app that allows residents to document and visualize their ever-changing environmental soundscape. SAIL Speaker Series The SAIL Speaker Series invites faculty, researchers, and community partners in a wide array of disciplines to share their research in domains such as data science, digital health, security and privacy, digital humanities, and natural sciences. Speakers leverage computational tools and work across disciplines to advance research through a data-driven lens.
