AJLM Symposium - The 21st Century Cures Act: A Cure for the 21st Century?
In a major bipartisan move, the 114th Congress enacted widespread changes to the biotechnology industry. Prompted by public outcry over price and access to pharmaceuticals, as well as industry pressure to alleviate regulatory constraints, the 21st Century Cures Act purports to tackle both hindrances in the biotechnological space and drive drug and device innovation. The goal — it seems — is to reinvigorate the pharmaceutical/device industry, while promoting access to its products — but can this bill accomplish such ambitious goals? What lies ahead for consumers and the industry?
