Join Boston University Academy and Boston University's Howard Thurman Center for a co-sponsored panel discussion entitled "Mass Incarceration: Causes and Cures." This panel will address the problem of mass incarceration in the U.S., looking at the ways in which education impacts incarceration, asking what rights prisoners have, and exploring possibilities for reducing the prison population in America. Speakers: Leslie Walker, Executive Director, Prisoners’ Legal Services of Mass (PLSM) http://www.plsma.org/ Carlos Monterio, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Suffolk University http://www.suffolk.edu/college/72476.php James Matesanz, Lecturer of Criminal Justice/ Direction of Prison Education, BU MET http://sites.bu.edu/pep/about-us/ Moderated by: Pedro Falci, Associate Director, BU Howard Thurman Center
