Blancanieves, Snow White

The 6th entry of the XIX Ibero-American Film Festival. Directed by Pablo Berger 2012 Blancanieves (Snow White), written and directed by Pablo Berger , is a very loose adaptation of the popular Brothers Grimm story set in the 1920s in the south of Spain. Snow White is Carmen (Marcarena Garcia) a beautiful young woman tormented in her youth by her evil stepmother, Encarna (Maribel Verdu). Fleeing from her past, Carmen sets out on a thrilling journey accompanied by her new friends - a troop of bullfighting dwarfs. With an unexpected and surprising ending, Blancanieves reveals to us that life is less like a fairy tale than it is a gothic melodrama.
