GMS Professional Development Seminar: Scientific Teams: Goal Building and Accomplishing Your Mission as a Team Members
Heather S. Duffy, Ph.D. will speak on "Scientific Teams: Goal building and Accomplishing Your Mission as a Team Members". Students and postdoctoral fellows work within a scientific team structure but problems arise when the team is disjointed, fragmented or even directly at odds. When this happens, everyone suffers. Productivity goes down, time is wasted and people may even quit rather than work in a dysfunctional team. This talk focuses on the structure of scientific teams and how these teams can work to accomplish the most for each member of the team. The focus of the presentation is on identifying individual missions within the team and building goals that lead to synergy between team members. This synergy leads to the highest possible achievement for the individuals within the team as well as for the team as a whole. I will explore team dynamics, what makes good teams tick and how poor teams hurt the individuals within. Step by step advice to building a strong team will be given with the final goal of accomplishing a forward thinking plan that each individual is committed to following both for their own, as well as their teams, continued success.Email: yolanta@bu.edu to register
