A Recital & Remarks - French Impressions: Vocal Music in the Fin-de-siècle
Join us for lunch as baritone Dana Whiteside and history professor and accomplished pianist James Johnson present a recital featuring the music of Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel. Professor Johnson will offer remarks on these musical settings drawn from the work of the French poet Paul Verlaine. Over their fifteen-year collaboration, Whiteside and Johnson have explored themes touching German romanticism, American composers in Paris, European music between the two world wars, and twentieth-century settings of Shakespeare.
