Etty

"On Tuesdays, the train leaves. But no matter where You place me, I will always long for this desk." So begins ETTY, a touring one-woman play based on the Etty Hillesum's luminous Holocaust diaries. Caught in the Nazi's complex game with human lives, Etty faces an ethical dilemma: as a member of Amsterdam’s Jewish Council, she is forced to ensure that Nazi orders and regulations are implemented against her fellow Jews, and struggles between her instinct to live and willingness to die. Sharing the stage with a suitcase, Etty speaks to us as she tries to gain clarity and insight into her life as she prepares for her three day journey to the east and the Camps. Adapted and performed by Susan Stein, ETTY has been hailed as "powerful and moving,” with a "smart script, full of insight."In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Boston University Hillel will present ETTY at Boston University on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:30pm in the Kenmore Classroom Building, located at 565 Commonwealth Avenue.
