The 2013 Boston Area Roman Studies Conference
"Imperium Romanum: domination and its challenges" The Boston Area Roman Studies Conference (BARSC) was instituted in 1995 to promote the study of Latin literature and Roman culture, to increase the visibility of these studies in the New England scholarly community and to provide a place for area Latinists and Romanists to meet, socialize, and exchange ideas. The BARSC is sponsored by the Department of Classical Studies and the Center for the Humanities at Boston University and is held annually in April. The conference is open to anyone interested and is free of charge. Following the conference is a dinner, and those wishing to attend must pre-register. The dinner charge is $22.00, and the registration deadline (for dinner only) is April 19, 2013. The 2013 Conference will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013, with registration opening at 3:30 p.m. and the program starting at 4:15 p.m. in Barristers Hall of the School of Law (765 Commonwealth Avenue, 1st Floor). The speakers for 2013 are: Emma Dench, Harvard University: “Imagining Roman Power” Zsuzsa Várhelyi, Boston University: “Representing leaders—from Republic to Empire” Josiah Osgood, Georgetown University: “How Do Civil Wars End? Some Roman Answers”
