When Feminism Rules: Assessing Governance Feminism Projects from the International to the Local

Janet Halley, Royall Professor of Law of Harvard Law School, will give her lecture entitled "When Feminism Rules: Assessing Governance Feminism Projects from the International to the Local." Dr. Halley's use of queer theory in legal studies is innovative, exciting, and exemplary of Eve Sedgwick's continuing interdisciplinary legacy. Professor Halley's books include Split Decisions: How and Why to Take a Break from Feminism (Princeton University Press, 2006) and Don't: A Reader's Guide to the Military's Anti-Gay Policy (Duke University Press, 1999). She is also the co-editor of After Sex? On Writing Since Queer Theory (with Andrew Parker, Duke University Press, 2011). Dr. Halley is currently at work on two new books: The Family/Market Distinction: A Legal History and Critical Deconstruction and Rethinking the Law of Rape, and, with a team of colleagues, a series of publications on governance feminism. A reception will follow the 5PM lecture. The event is sponsored by BU Center for the Humanities, the BU School of Law, the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature, the Department of English, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Religion, the School of Theology, and the Program in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
