Literary Translation Lecture Series
Szymek from teh Village and Joe from Missouri: Problems of Voice in Translating Wiesław Myśliwski’s "Stone Upon Stone" Bill Johnston has translated over twenty-five books from the Polish, including poetry, prose, and drama. His translation of Wiesław Myśliwski’s 1984 novel Stone Upon Stone (Archipelago Books, 2010) won the 2012 PEN Translation Prize and the 2012 Best Translated Book Award. In 2008 he won the inaugural Found in Translation Prize, for Tadeusz Różewicz’s new poems (Archipelago Books, 2007), which was also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Poetry Award, and in 2005 the AATSEEL Translation Prize for Magdalena Tulli’s Dreams and Stones (Archipelago Books, 2004).
