Building Artistry and Changing Lives: Teaching Music in Boston Prisons
Andre de Quadros, Professor, School of Music, and Jamie Hillman (DMA, CFA ’13) will discuss the music program they have launched as part of the Boston University Prison Education Program within the Massachusetts correctional system. They will share the power music has in transforming the lives of the participants, and demonstrate the importance of socially conscious work for all artists. De Quadros and Hillman will outline the goals and process of the project, the philosophy of participation, and the benefits for the artists, prisoners, and the community at large. A reception will be held following the lecture.
