The Center for Advanced Biotechnology focuses on the development of new methodologies and new biological materials. Projects currently under investigation at CAB include:

methods for high throughput DNA analysis
methods for DNA amplification and detection
methods for genome-wide comparisons, e.g., for rapid identification of polymorphic regions
methods for detection of drug - DNA interactions
methods for DNA sequencing
construction of synthetic gene networks
engineering of proteins or other macromolecules to act as in vivo detectors
computational modelling and optimization of measurement techniques
bioinformatic sequence analysis
structural studies of nucleic acids and nucleic acid analogs
sequence-specific targeting of native DNA
assembly of novel DNA nanostructures
methods for controlling the fate of environmentally released microrganisms

Research at the Center for Biotechnology is performed by the local groups and in collaboration with other departments, including Biology, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering. The faculty at CAB have also taken an active role in the establishment of the new graduate program in Bioinformatics at Boston University.
