- Sandbox
- In the context of BUworks: a test environment that allows experimentation with system elements without affecting production data. A sandbox might be used to test a new system module or module interface, for example.
- Shadow System
- A system used locally by a department to provide a capability not available in a central system. The system was neither created by, nor supported by, University Information Systems.
- Stakeholder
- An individual or organization that is involved in, impacted by, or has a relevant interest in project activities or outcomes.
- Straw Man
- In the context of BUworks: a representation of something, e.g., a process, that is used as a starting point for discussion and subsequent fine-tuning in order to yield a more precise representation of that thing.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- A person who is an expert in a particular business area.
- Terrier Card
- Boston University students, faculty, and staff are assigned a nine-character, computer-generated ID number. This University ID number or "U" number is used for all University records including registration and class adjustments.
- To-be
- A future state of a process, for example. Typically used in reference to a desired future state. Contrasted with "As-is".
- UID
- University IDentification; a unique number used to identify an individual within systems used at the University. Also referred to as a "U" number.
