What Will Change?
BUworks has two main areas of emphasis: updating our software systems and updating our business processes.
Software Systems
BUworks will replace many of the electronic systems University employees now use—parts of Galaxy, Employee Links, Online Turnarounds, Web Purchase Requisitions, etc.—with one state-of-the-art, efficient, integrated system.
The new system will be what is commonly referred to as an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. These integrated software systems, provided by such companies as Oracle and SAP, have become increasingly common in today’s large businesses and universities due to the tremendous business improvement opportunities they offer.
Business Processes
BUworks will also streamline many of the processes and procedures University employees follow as they complete their work. Our goal is to make our business processes take less time, have fewer steps, require fewer approvals, and be more consistent from department to department.
The list below represents the overall scope of the BUworks project as approved by the BUworks Steering Committee in 2009. However, due to the size of the project, not all functions will be brought on-line at our scheduled go-live dates. At least some of these functions will be installed after official implementation in a phased approach. A more specific installation timeline will be communicated once we have completed the implementation blueprinting and identified all associated dependencies in early 2010.
