The Road to Washington: Election 2012 event tomorrow

t_GingrichRomneyOn Wednesday, January 25, the Boston University Alumni Association will host BU’s Road to Washington: An Election Year Series, at the George Sherman Union Conference Auditorium. Moderated by Thomas Fiedler, Dean of the College of Communication, the panel will include Tobe Berkovitz, Dino Christenson and Graham Wilson. For more information on the event, read the preview on BU Today.

The event will run from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., and will also be streamed live on the BU Alumni Association UStream channel. Questions will be solicited on Twitter on the @bualumni account, and on the event hashtag, #buR2W. The Conference Auditorium is located on the second floor of the George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue. The event is free and open to the public; registration is required.

Observing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Boston University will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (GRS’55, Hon.’59) on Monday with an event, Manifest Our Destiny, which will include talks and performances by the BU community. The celebration, one of the largest MLK Day events in Boston, is an annual event which began before the first observance of the national holiday in 1986. Manifest Our Destiny takes place Monday, January 16th at 1 p.m., in the Metcalf Ballroom in the George Sherman Union. The event is free and open to the public, and will also be broadcast live on UStream.

Obama and Campaign 2012 discussed in live chat

On Tuesday, November 29th, BU Today hosted a town hall-style discussion, “Hope and Change? A Conversation on the Obama Presidency.” The panel included Dean of the College of Communication Thomas Fiedler, journalism professor Robert Zelnick, and two undergraduate students, Tabitha Watson (COM’12, CAS’12) and Crystal Burrell (CAS’14). Dean of Students Kenn Elmore moderated the discussion, bringing in questions from the audience and live viewers on UStream, Twitter and Facebook.

Panelists discussed Obama’s gains and shortfalls in office, reflecting on his election, the country’s economic crisis, foreign policy, and national security. The Occupy Wall Street movement and the job market for college graduates were also touched upon.
