Boston University hosts Greater Boston gas leaks panel and workshop

The Center for Energy and Environmental Studies and the Sustainable Cities Initiative at Boston University present a panel and workshop today, “Lost and Unaccounted Natural Gas: Energy, Economics and Environment.” Boston University researchers, research partners and local leaders in government and the private sector will discuss the extent of methane gas leaks in Boston, and will propose next steps toward resolution.

Boston University participants include Nathan Philips, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies; and Robert Kaufman and Cutler Cleveland of the Department of Geography and Environment.
The event runs from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm on Friday, September 23 in the 9th floor Metcalf Trustee Center at 1 Silber Way. The event is free and open to the public. Formal registration has closed, but walk-ins are welcomed. More information on the event can be found on the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies’ website.

Gotlieb Honors Robert B. Parker

<img src=”http://blogs.bu.edu/bunow/files/2010/04/rbp-231×300.jpg” alt=”rbp” width=”231″ height=”300″ />The <a href=”http://www.bu.edu/dbin/archives/” target=”_blank”>Howard Gotlieb Archival Research  Center</a> will host a celebration of the life of noted writer <a href=”http://www.robertbparker.net/” target=”_blank”>Robert B. Parker</a>, followed by a reception, today 5:30 PM in the <a href=”http://www.bu.edu/evcon/non-univ/campus-facilities/metcalf-trustee-center/”>Metcalf Ballroom</a> (775   Commonwealth Ave., Second Floor).  His archives, which are housed at the Gotlieb  Center, will be exhibited and tributes to Parker’s life will be made by <a href=”http://www.suegrafton.com/”>Sue Grafton</a>, <a href=”http://www.dennislehanebooks.com/”>Dennis Lehane</a>, <a href=”http://www.thenation.com/directory/bios/calvin_trillin”>Calvin Trillin</a> and members of the Parker family. Parker, regarded as one of America’s greatest crime-fiction authors, is remembered as being an award-winning novelist, a sought after professor at <a href=”http://www.northeastern.edu/neuhome/index.php”>Northeastern University</a> and a famously devoted husband and father.

Pumpkin Drop 2009 today

<p style=”text-align: center”>The <a href=”http://physics.bu.edu/”>Boston University Physics</a> department is hosting the 2009 Pumpkin Drop today at 1 PM outside of the Metcalf Science Center (590 Commonwealth Avenue).  The department will be throwing approximately 30 pumpkins, filled with everything from powder to paint, off the Metcalf Science Center roof into the plaza.  The event is free and open to the public.  Click <a href=”http://www.bu.edu/today/campus-life/2008/01/17/smashing-pumpkins”>smashing-pumpkins</a> to see video of past pumpkin drops.</p>
