For the October installment of BUSM's Global Health Equity Program Speaker Series and Primary Care Week, Dr. Heidi Behforouz, founder and director of Prevention and Access to Care and Treatment (PACT) will speak. Based on the accompagnateur model pioneered in rural Haiti, Partners In Health's PACT program focuses on effectively integrating community health workers (CHWs) into primary care and mental health teams. PACT partners with clinics to develop the infrastructure, culture, quality improvement tools, and skills necessary to support effective CHW interventions for the most vulnerable patients. Dr. Behforouz will speak about PACT's model and findings that well-supported and well-integrated CHWs enable care teams to improve their patients’ health outcomes and reduce expenditures on healthcare.
