Dean Elmore Chats Live With @BostonTweet

On Thursday, September 8th, Dean of Students Kenn Elmore sat down with local Twitter celebrity Tom O’Keefe, better known as @BostonTweet, to discuss some of the best food, scenes and sightseeing in Boston.

Best Burger

American Craft: “They have 20+ toppings you add on it, it’s this massive burger, rare… it’s really, really, really good.” Also recommended: b.good for takeaway.

Kenn’s recommendation: Tasty Burger. Free pool, a nice bar setup for the 21+ crowd, you can even order the Big Kahuna from this Pulp Fiction-inspired spot.


Best Seafood/Oysters

Island Creek Oyster Bar in Kenmore

Neptune Oyster in the North End: “Really cool old vibe to it. Great wine list there, too.”

B&G Oysters in the South End


Best Chowder

Union Oyster House: Oldest restaurant in Boston.

Mr. Dooley’s on Broad Street


Best Lobster Roll

James Hook and Co.: A small takeout place right on the water with a $12 lobster roll. “It’s phenomenal; fresh as can be.”

Turner Fisheries in Back Bay


Best Frozen Yogurt

BerryLine: Tom’s favorite. Started by two Harvard and MIT biology PhD’s.

Berry Freeze in Coolidge Corner: “It’s help yourself, which I always get a kick out of.”


Best Pizza

Picco in the South End: Neapolitan with a charred crust.


Best Hot Dog

Spike’s Junkyard Dogs: Tom frequents the Boylston Street location near Berklee.


Best Food Truck

Redbones BBQ: Of their physical location in Davis Square, Kenn says, “They have valet parking for your bike.”

Other favorites include: Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, Cupcakory, Momogoose, Bon Me. Tom suggests the City of Boston’s food truck schedule to find out which trucks will be in which locations and when. “It’s really done well.”


Best Scene/Best Atmosphere

Kendall Square: A newly active area in Cambridge with a growing pool of places to socialize, network and rub elbows with the tech startup crowd. Places mentioned included Meadhall (beer bar with ~100 beers on tap), Catalyst, and Area Four (small plates; wine on tap).

Eastern Standard in Kenmore: “Good scene, great food, impeccable service.”

Other favorites include: Mr. Dooley’s, The Field in Central Square, The Burren in Davis Square, and The Druid in Inman Square. “Casual, divey bars” with warm atmospheres and quiet enough for good conversation.
