Dean Elmore Chats Live With @BostonTweet
On Thursday, September 8th, Dean of Students Kenn Elmore sat down with local Twitter celebrity Tom O’Keefe, better known as @BostonTweet, to discuss some of the best food, scenes and sightseeing in Boston.
We’ve compiled some of our favorite recommendations from the live event; check out the archived stream for the full talk.
Kenn’s recommendation: Tasty Burger. Free pool, a nice bar setup for the 21+ crowd, you can even order the Big Kahuna from this Pulp Fiction-inspired spot.
Island Creek Oyster Bar in Kenmore
Neptune Oyster in the North End: “Really cool old vibe to it. Great wine list there, too.”
B&G Oysters in the South End
Union Oyster House: Oldest restaurant in Boston.
Mr. Dooley’s on Broad Street
James Hook and Co.: A small takeout place right on the water with a $12 lobster roll. “It’s phenomenal; fresh as can be.”
Turner Fisheries in Back Bay
BerryLine: Tom’s favorite. Started by two Harvard and MIT biology PhD’s.
Berry Freeze in Coolidge Corner: “It’s help yourself, which I always get a kick out of.”
Picco in the South End: Neapolitan with a charred crust.
Spike’s Junkyard Dogs: Tom frequents the Boylston Street location near Berklee.
Redbones BBQ: Of their physical location in Davis Square, Kenn says, “They have valet parking for your bike.”
Other favorites include: Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, Cupcakory, Momogoose, Bon Me. Tom suggests the City of Boston’s food truck schedule to find out which trucks will be in which locations and when. “It’s really done well.”
Kendall Square: A newly active area in Cambridge with a growing pool of places to socialize, network and rub elbows with the tech startup crowd. Places mentioned included Meadhall (beer bar with ~100 beers on tap), Catalyst, and Area Four (small plates; wine on tap).
Eastern Standard in Kenmore: “Good scene, great food, impeccable service.”
Other favorites include: Mr. Dooley’s, The Field in Central Square, The Burren in Davis Square, and The Druid in Inman Square. “Casual, divey bars” with warm atmospheres and quiet enough for good conversation.
It wouldn’t be an interview with @BostonTweet without asking who else we should follow. Tom suggests:
@UniversalHub: Adam Gaffin, Editor; Boston community news and information
