Thurman Center Taps NEHGS for Family History Project

While searching through census records at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Desa [...]Larkin-Boutté notices her great-great-grandparents, who appear white, checked mulatto for their race. Larkin-Boutté works with online genealogist, David Allen Lambert, to discover how race is determined on past census records, and reflects on changes made in the 2010 census.

Larkin-Boutté’s research is part of the Family History Project, an educational partnership of the Howard Thurman Center and New England Historic Genealogical Society.
