Master Clinicians and Theologians in Dialogue: Marie Hoffman and Phillis Sheppard

Dr. Marie Hoffman, psychoanalyst, author, and faculty member in the New York University Postdoctoral [...]Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, responds to Dr. McWilliams’ presentation noting themes of suffering and spirituality, the subversive history of spirituality in psychoanalytic thought and practice, and clinical material.

Dr. Phillis Sheppard, psychoanalyst, womanist theologian, author, and Associate Professor in Boston University’s School of Theology responds to Dr. McWilliams’s presentation with a combination of personal history, reflections on spiritual, cultural, and racial issues in psychotherapy, and clinical material.

Their presentations are the sixth in an eleven-part series from the Danielsen Institute’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, the 2012 Merle Jordan Conference, entitled “The Skillful Soul of the Psychotherapist: Master Clinicians and Theologians in Dialogue.”
