All faculty listings represent the 2006/2007 academic year; faculty citations found in course descriptions, however, are current.

In the College of Arts and Sciences, course numbers indicate the following levels.

100–199 Introductory or general courses.
200–299 Intermediate courses, normally requiring sophomore standing or above, but in some cases open to freshman concentrators in the department and freshmen who have earned advanced placement.
300–499 Advanced undergraduate.
500–699 Advanced courses carrying both undergraduate and graduate credit.

Advertising


Minor Concentration in Advertising

The minor concentration in advertising is designed for students who want a general introduction to the concepts and practices of the advertising profession. This minor concentration is restricted to College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, and College of Engineering students.

Prerequisites for entering the program are a minimum grade of B in CAS EN 201 Intermediate Composition, CAS WR 150 Writing and Research Seminar, or CAS EN 220 Proseminar in Literature; and a grade of B in COM CO 201 Introduction to Communication Writing. The minor concentration should be declared before the end of the second semester of the sophomore year to ensure sufficient time to complete the requirements.

Required Courses

The following four courses are required for the minor concentration:

COM CM 317 Introduction to Advertising

COM CM 331 Writing for Communication

COM CM 417 Advertising Copy and Design (prereq: COM CM 317, CM 331)

COM CM 420 AdLab (2 credits)

Please Note: COM CM 420 must be taken twice in consecutive semesters for a total of four credits.

Students may take elective courses from either category. Registration for all COM courses is on a space-available basis.

A grade point average of 2.3 is required in all COM courses. No transfer credit may be used to fulfill the program's nine-course residence requirement in the College of Communication. Students must register for COM CO 201 at the College of Communication Office of Student Services (COM Room 123), and for all other courses at the corresponding COM department.
