Boston University’s Sargent Center is located in the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire, 90 minutes from the Charles River Campus. The Center has 700 acres of forest and fields, 22 miles of trails, the 60-acre Halfmoon Pond—featuring a floating glacial bog—and includes two lodges (with dining); rustic yet comfortable winterized cabins; and meeting spaces. The Center’s state-of-the-art adventure facilities include two high ropes courses, a 260’ zip wire, a low ropes course, and a 35’ climbing tower.

Year-round, Sargent Center welcomes school children, professionals, families, volunteer organizations, college students, and nature lovers for opportunities in outdoor recreation and experiential learning unique to the Center’s setting.

Sargent Center also offers year-round teambuilding and leadership development programs, and is available for retreats, conferences, research, and intensive weekend and summer session courses.

Camps at Sargent Center

Adventure Camp includes twenty-four outdoor summer camp programs from 6 to 26 days long, ranging from the on-site Adventure Challenge to multi-day wilderness trips in five different states and Canada. Participants ages 10–17 choose among ropes courses, canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, sea-kayaking, community service, leadership development, and other exciting adventures.

Family Camp is an annual winter weekend for families of all sizes, featuring a variety of group and individual activities both outdoors and indoors.

Vacation Day Camp, held during New Hampshire’s February school vacation week, allows participants ages 6–13 to enjoy a variety of activities that take full advantage of Sargent Center’s facilities and grounds.

School Program

Since 1950, Sargent Center has been hosting innovative outdoor education and adventure programs for 5th to 8th grade classrooms. Over 3,000 students and teachers attend School Program annually.

Sargent Center’s forest, pond, meadow, river, and bog communities provide a living laboratory where students and teachers can discover the wonders of ecology, geology, and astronomy. The center’s adventure facilities present extraordinary opportunities for individual growth and teamwork.

School Program staff design lessons based on current state curricular standards. Teachers choose from three hands-on subject areas: the environment; adventure; and outdoor skills.
