www.bu.edu/professionalBoston University’s Center for Professional Education (CPE) offers short, high-quality, non-credit programs that are specifically designed to meet the educational needs of professionals in such industries as financial services, real estate, publishing, and law.Certificate programs offered through CPE are comprised of a series of courses covering a coherent body of study in a specific discipline. Students who complete the series earn a professional certificate, endorsed by Boston University. Select CPE programs can also help students satisfy educational requirements for professional certification exams or designations. CPE students benefit greatly from working with faculty members who are not only scholars, but professionals with distinguished careers and proven expertise in their fields. These instructors bring real-world experience into the classroom, providing a combination of theory and hands-on learning that helps students develop their professional skills and their understanding of current industry technologies, techniques, and practices. Center for Professional Education ProgramsCertified Management Accountant (CMA) Exam PreparationOffered online, the CMA Exam Preparation program prepares students for the Institute of Management Accountant’s (IMA) CMA exams, enabling them to earn the CMA designation. Students who earn the CMA designation are eligible for two course waivers in the Metropolitan College online Master of Science in Banking & Financial Services Management (MSBFSM) degree. Community, Legal & Medical InterpretingThe certificate programs in Community, Legal & Medical Interpreting are designed for multilingual professionals who speak, read, and write fluently in English and Chinese, Portuguese, or Spanish. Linguistic competence in both languages is brought to professional levels, and students develop the computer skills, technical vocabulary, and professional ethics needed to perform various types of interpretation—simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation—competently. Financial PlanningOffered in both classroom and online formats, the Financial Planning certificate program accommodates the need for professionals who are trained to assist clients in planning for present and future financial security. The program provides the educational foundation necessary to pursue CFP® certification. Genealogical ResearchThe Genealogical Research certificate program introduces current genealogical technologies and research methods, and reflects exacting industry standards. Taught by some of the premier genealogists in the country, the program trains students to identify and evaluate evidence, design research strategies, and write quality reports, while providing excellent preparation for certification through the Board for Certification of Genealogists®. Paralegal StudiesOffered in both classroom and online formats, the Paralegal certificate program introduces individuals to comprehensive legal theory. In addition, the program's unique technology component provides students with relevant hands-on experience. Professional Fund RaisingOffered in the classroom or online, the Professional Fund Raising certificate program provides the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the burgeoning and increasingly specialized field of fundraising for nonprofit institutions, and serves as preparation for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) exam. Professional InvestigationOffered in the classroom or online, the Professional Investigation certificate program is ideal for current investigative professionals, those in related occupations, and those seeking to enter the field. The unique course of study focuses on the three primary areas of professional investigation: research, interviewing, and surveillance. PublishingFor those who wish to enter the publishing industry, or for current professionals who wish to update their skills, the certificate program in Publishing provides a fuller understanding of the business aspects of publishing—including design, business strategies, and publishing law. Real Estate StudiesThe Commercial Real Estate programs develop the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the increasingly sophisticated commercial real estate market and facilities management. Students may enroll in a single course or pursue certificates in Commercial Real Estate, Facilities Management, Lease Administration, or Real Estate Finance.
