DEILAB LEGO WORKSHOPS for kids

LEGO Engineering Workshop: To introduce design, Engineering and innovation concepts to children that ignites their imaginations at an age when dreams motivate action.

Ages 5-8  Price  $225     9AM to 12 noon  Week 1: June 20-24    OR Week 2: Aug 8-12

LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Workshop: Students will learn the basics of designing, programming, and controlling a fully functional robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®. DEILAB provides an overview of robot mechanisms, dynamics, and controls. Teams will design working robotic systems.

Ages 9-12  Price  $225  1PM to 4PM  Week 1: June 20-24     OR Week 2: Aug 8-12

Both classes explore form, function & scale through hands-on project based learning & testing with LEGO. To inspire the designers, engineers & innovators of tomorrow.

BU College of Engineering Workshops for kids

U-Design:   It is a fun, exciting science and engineering program for kids who are currently in grades 6 – 9 at time of registration. It is a hands-on laboratory and workshop experience that gives you the opportunity to learn about science and technology by engaging in the real work of scientists and engineers: design, exploration, experimentation, and invention. Here you get to think of your own ideas, and build your own way-cool inventions.

VEXIQ Workshop for kids

This workshop for kids is run by the Boston University Robotics Team.  The VEXIQ teams we have coached have been the VEXIQ New England Teamwork Tournament Champions for two years in a row.  Students will work in small groups to design, build, program, and drive robots to play this year’s VEXIQ game Crossover.  We will teach kids to design robots using SNAPCAD, and to program robots with RobotC and/or Modkit.  

For ages 8-13.    Price  $225     Aug 15-19  1pM to 4PM

On Friday we will have a Crossover tournament.

Topics Covered:

  • Robot Design Principles
  • Computer Aided Design using SNAP CAD
  • Programming using ROBOT C or Modkit
  • Use of sensors such as ultrasonic distance sensor, gyro sensor, and  touch sensor.

FIRST LEGO League Coaches Clinic

FLL workshops are run by DEILAB and the BU Robotics Team.  The BU Robotics team has hosted 8 FIRST LEGO League Tournaments and  run over a dozen LEGO Mindstorms workshops.  The teams we have mentored have regularly earned Design Awards at FLL Tournaments.  Register at DEILAB.

VEXIQ Coaches Clinic

8AM to 12 noon, Monday Aug 15 to Tuesday Aug 16   Price:  $150

Register on RobotEvents or at DEILAB.

In this coaches workshop we will introduce coaches to the VEXIQ platform.  We will include an introduction to registering a team, team management, game strategy, robot design, Computer Aided Design using SNAP CAD, and programming using both MODKIT and RobotC.  All coaches attending will receive a $25 voucher to attend a tournament at Boston University Academy during the 2016-2017 VEXIQ Robotics season.

This workshop is taught by Gary Garber and the Boston University Robotics Team.  Our VEXIQ team has won the New England VEXIQ Teamwork Tournament Champions for two years in a row.  Our team also won the Judges Award in the Elementary School Division at the 2016 VEXIQ World Championship.  

We will have a field setup for the new game Crossover, and last year’s game Bankshot.

FRC Post-season events:  WPI Battlecry   May 21-22

We will be meeting twice a week to work on VEX Robots for the Game Starstruck.

There is a VEX Scrimmage June 15th in Pembroke NH.

Workshops: LEGO Clinic at Boston Public Library May 25-26
