James C. Orr is co-founder and Secretary of the Bretton Woods Committee. In addition, he is managing partner of James Orr Associates, a Washington-based government policy consulting firm whose clients are international financial services firms, central banks, and government ministries. Prior to the formation of the firm and the Committee, Mr. Orr served both Democrats and Republicans during eight years as legislative counsel to the Financial Services Committee and the International Trade and International Development Subcommittees of the U.S. House of Representatives.

He also serves as Chairman of MicroFinance International Corporation. MFIC is a financial services company dedicated to providing high quality, affordable services to under-served people and markets. MFIC offers Internet-based remittance services, personal loans, mortgages and insurance services, among other products.

He is a director of TechnoServe, Inc. – a non-profit, aid organization helping entrepreneurial people in developing countries build businesses and create employment, income and opportunity for their communities.

He has advised several national and international commissions and lectured at universities in the United States and abroad. He has performed specialized consulting assignments for leading private financial institutions, the World Bank, the IMF, the IDB, and government ministries. He is a speaker on political, finance and trade issues, as well as on international relations and has appeared as a commentator on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Bloomberg, C-Span and other networks. His writings include books, articles and op-eds on the activities of the multilateral development banks, regulation of the U.S. financial sector, developing country issues and U.S. national, political and security issues.

His undergraduate degree is in economics from Wesleyan University, and he holds a master’s degree in international economics from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University.
