Law Regulating the Activities of Cooperative Savings and Loan Societies (consumer protection-related)

Mexico

(enacted in 2009)

The Law Regulating the Activities of Cooperative Savings and Loan Societies (Ley para Regular las Actividades de las Sociedades Cooperativs de Ahorro y Préstamo) builds on the Popular Savings and Credit Law by providing a separate legal framework for the Cooperative Savings and Loan Societies (SCAPs) in Mexico. Provisions relevant to consumer protection include those giving the National Banking and Securities Commission inspection and oversight powers, and those creating a Protection Fund as a delegated supervisory organ and deposit insurance scheme.
