Intellectual Property Act No. 36

Sri Lanka

(enacted in 2003)

Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003 contains a section (Part VIII, Chapter XXXI) that broadly prohibits unfair competition and undisclosed information in the course of commercial activities in Sri Lanka. Going beyond intellectual property in scope, it bans misleading advertising or promotion of all services. It also prohibits the disclosure of information without the consent of the person lawfully in control of that information and allows aggrieved persons to institute court proceedings for injunctions and damages.
