Directive 97/7/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 1997 on the protection of consumers in respect of distance contracts


This law involves the rights of private consumers when doing business (primarily purchasing) with other business that are Member States in the European Union. This includes:

– protection from unsolicited sales attempts and high-pressure selling tactics
– requirements for sufficient information to be provided to consumers
– contract rights, including the conditions to be able to withdraw from a contract
